The formative years...

Reginald Wayne Miller was born on August 24, 1965 in Riverside, CA. He grew up in California. Reggie wasn't exactly born 100% normal. His waste was badly twisted, and his legs went inward. Reggie had to wear braces on his legs for many years. The doctors questioned if he could walk even, not even to mention play basketball. His parents were never negative. They always told him, "You will walk, you will run, you will play basketball," as he was watching his brothers and sisters play outside. Then, the miracle happened. Reggie was soon out there trying to catch up with his Hall-Of-Fame sister, Cheryl Miller. Reggie practiced until his hands blistered. Everyone asked him, "How did you do it?" He said, "Practice." They ask him again, and he said practice. Soon enough, Reggie and Cheryl were a deadly team. Reggie's first love was baseball though. He played in the Little Leagues. He wanted to play forever, he wanted to be the next baseball legend. Until once in his freshman year of high school, he was standing out in the outfield and he said, "It was cold. No one was hitting the ball to me. That's when I decided I needed something with action. Basketball, you've got cheerleaders, a band, it's always crazy." Reggie decided to play basketball on a team, and not JUST for fun outside in his backyard. he started when he was a sophmore. Their main guard was injured one game, and Reggie started. Everyone was shocked. When Reggie went out there, he made a couple mistakes, but he scored over 30 points. He started again and scored again. He became player of the week and started every game after that. Reggie went on to UCLA and played all four years there. In the 1987 NBA draft, Reggie Miller was the 11th pick in the 1st round and came here to Indiana to become a star for the Pacers.

Reggie overcame the obstacle of the braces on his legs and the obstacle of his sister. He is who he is because he never gave up. He's where he's at now because his family would never let him give up.
